"Querella de los indios en las 'Cortes de la Muerte' (1557) de Michael de Carvajal" (Mexico: UNAM, 2002) is a study (with an annotated edition) of the scene nineteenth of "Cortes de la Muerte"-a rare theatrical version of the Conquest of the New World from the sixteenth century. In this scene, clearly influenced by Bartolomé de las Casas, a group of American savages with their Cacique protests before the tribunal presided by Death, against the conquistadors and encomenderos. |
